The ground is on which we raise our animals and grow our hay was once owned by Connie Young’s Great Grandfather – Owen D. Young. The farm was sold in 1948 and had been owned by other farming families for about 50 years. When it came up for sale in the early 2000’s, Connie Young and her husband Ken Richards decided to bring the property back into the family fold.
There are 6 tributaries that form the headwaters of the Otsquago Creek. 5 of these 6 tributaries flow through our Farm. These waters are protected both by a Conservation Easement through the Otsego Land Trust (https://otsegolandtrust.org/conservation-tools); and through a USDA CREP Contract. The Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program is a voluntary land retirement program that helps agricultural producers protect environmentally sensitive land, decrease erosion, restore wildlife habitat, and safeguard ground and surface water.

The Owners/Farmers are Connie Young and Ken Richards. We are a small operation and find great joy and satisfaction in working closely with the local farm community, neighbors helping neighbors. In addition to the rewards of managing the land, growing the feed and taking care of our animals, we are also lifelong believers in the importance of the healthful and delicious qualities of the food we eat. Our interest in becoming full-time farmers was in part to continue a family legacy, in part to protect and enhance farmland and habitat, and in part to produce Piedmontese Beef – the most succulent beef a steak-lover can consume. With help from our community we’ve found our niche and work the land with sustainability and conservation at the forefront.
